The Greek Theatre at a glance
The Teatro Antico (ancient theatre) stands on Via del Teatro Greco 40 in the old town of Taormina. It is run by the regional archaeological park of Naxos and Taormina, the same body that looks after the museum in Giardini Naxos and Isola Bella. This is an independent guide, not the official site of the theatre, the park or the town.
Opening hours change with the season, so check the current times before you go. Concerts and festivals use the same space and sell their own tickets.

Teatro Antico: what it is
A Greek theatre with Roman changes.
The theatre is of Greek origin. The Italian ministry of culture dates it to the 3rd century BC. The Romans later altered it, which is why the ruins show work from more than one period.
It is a monument first and a venue second. Outside event nights you visit it as a daytime sight with a ticket from the regional park. Concerts and festivals are covered further down.
The same park also lists the Odeon and the Castello di Taormina (the castle). Their hours and tickets are separate from the theatre, so ask what applies on the day.
Tickets and discounts in 2026
Prices from the regional park's ticket page, 2026.

The regional park's ticket page links to an online ticket service. Use it for the current price and any time slots. A theatre ticket is not a combined ticket for the other sights in town.

Hours, seasons and summer evenings
No single timetable covers the whole year.
The park changes its hours through the year, and its own pages show different closing times for the theatre. Do not rely on a number copied from an older guide. Last entry is always earlier than closing time, so do not arrive in the final minutes. Check the current hours on the day.
In summer 2026 the park opened the theatre late on selected evenings. The announced dates were 1 to 5, 23 and 28 June, 1, 2 and 13 July, 3, 14 to 17, 23 and 31 August, and 20, 26, 27 and 28 September. The park published that calendar at the end of May. Late opening applied to sightseeing only. Look for the park's notice before you plan around an evening visit in a later summer.
Concerts and festivals
Events have their own tickets.
Taormina Film Festival
The 72nd edition ran from 10 to 14 June 2026.
Taobuk
The 16th edition of the literature festival ran from 18 to 22 June 2026.
Late-summer shows
A performance called Planetaria Blu was announced at the Teatro Antico for 17 September 2026.
Winter season
The town's indoor theatre season runs from 30 October 2026 to 16 April 2027 at the Palacongressi, a different venue from the ancient theatre.
Do not assume the sightseeing ticket covers a performance. Check the organiser's ticket terms for every event.
How to get to the theatre
The old town is largely on foot.
On foot from the centre
The Corso Umberto is the car-free main street of the old town. Wear comfortable shoes, because you will walk.
By car
Park outside the old town. Both the Lumbi car park (Via Mario e Nicola Garipoli) and the Porta Catania car park are open around the clock. Lumbi costs €3 for the first hour, Porta Catania €3 in the low season and €5 in the high season (1 April to 31 October). A shuttle runs from Lumbi into the centre, so check the stop when you board.
By train and bus
Taormina-Giardini station is not in the old town. The Taormina Link bus connects it with the centre. For the trip from the airport, see Catania to Taormina.
From the beach
The cable car runs between Mazzarò and the town. See the Taormina cable car guide for 2026 fares.
