Tours from Taormina: five types to choose from

Taormina is easy to see on your own, but some days work better with a guide or a skipper: the sea around Isola Bella, an excursion to Etna and the Alcantara gorge, a cooking class or a walk with the history of the theatre. This page does not rank operators. It explains the types of tours, the prices operators publish in 2026 and the points that decide whether a booking is good value.

Boat trips start from places such as Mazzarò and Giardini Naxos, so check the meeting point before you book, not only the name of the tour.

A simple rule: choose a boat trip for good weather, a cooking class for rain, and an excursion when the gorge or Etna matters more than the town. Everything inside Taormina is easy to do alone.

Boat trips: what to know

Small boats, short trips and weather rules.

Length and group size

One operator offers a shared tour from the Isola Bella beach that lasts 1 hour, takes at most 6 guests and costs €70 per person in 2026. It includes a swim and snorkel stop of 5 to 10 minutes, a towel, water and snorkelling gear. Trips differ in length, so compare the duration, not only the price.

Weather and cancellation

The same operator gives no free cancellation of confirmed bookings. If it cancels because the sea is dangerous, it offers a new date first and a full refund if no date works. Other operators set other rules, so read the terms.

Dolphins

Some trips advertise dolphins. Sightings are not guaranteed, so treat them as a bonus, not as part of the programme.

Etna, the gorge and classes

Day trips and half days.

Etna excursions

The bus company Interbus lists daily excursions from Taormina, Giardini Naxos and Letojanni. Their names combine Etna Sud at 1,900 metres, Etna Sud at 2,900 metres or Etna Nord with the Alcantara gorge. The heights are product names, not a promise that the upper station or craters are open. For summit rules and eruption news, see the Etna guide for Taormina and Catania and the Etna wine tours.

Alcantara gorge

The municipal entrance costs €2 per person (4 April to 31 October 2026). The private park sells a full tour at €30 for adults and €25 for children aged 5 to 10, and body rafting at €65 per person with wetsuit, shoes, life jacket and helmet, guided by river guides, with a lift back up. Online booking closes 24 hours before the trip.

Cooking classes

One school lists pizza from €70, pasta from €120, a Sicilian cooking class from €150 and mixology from €150. These are starting prices. Dates, length and child prices vary, so read the class page.

Tour or on your own?

The trade-offs with 2026 prices.

What a tour gives you

One booking, a fixed meeting point and someone to explain what you see. This helps most on the days with the longest transfers: Etna, the gorge and boat trips.

What it costs to go alone

The theatre ticket costs €14 and the cable car €15 return for non-residents. A bus trip to Castelmola is €2, and the Interbus hop-on hop-off day ticket €15. Add entry at Isola Bella and Naxos, €6 each.

Cable car →

What you give up

A fixed day. If the weather turns, a tour may not move, so look for a rebooking rule. Check too whether a guided theatre tour includes the €14 ticket.

The middle way

Do the old town alone, and book a guide for the one day with a long transfer. For the airport leg, see the sister guide Catania to Taormina.

Taormina tours: frequently asked questions

Which tours are worth it from Taormina?

Not always. Look for the entry fee in the list of inclusions. The municipal access costs €2 per person in 2026.
